AUSINI FIRE BRIGADE # 21801

Found this hidden away on a shelf in a leading pharmacy a while ago.

PIECES:  505
VALUE:   ZAR 149.99 (ZAR 0.2970 per brick)
ACCURACY OF PACKAGING:  7/10
                   FUN/PLAYABILITY:  7/10
                                     QUALITY:  7/10
                         INSTRUCTIONS:  7/10
                MINI CHARACTERS:  5/10
                                   OVERALL:  7/10

Generally a good buy with bricks of a good quality with lots of stickers included. In terms of the mini-characters the emblems have been printed on the back of the firemen's helmets instead of the front.
Oddly we also found mini-character weapons in the packaging which we figure was an error during packaging.

KAZI # KY84028 - A SUBMARINE

Having been in the navy and a bit of a fascination with submarines we often looked at this model and noted it for purchase when next in the east. Much to our surprise we find one available in a local hobby store (the only brick product the had) and quickly snapped it up.
This is from Kazi's Field army series and includes lights and audio. Unfortunately the lack of creativity in the name 'A Submarine' continued in the the audio with a very obscure music track added.
That said the build was fun and the final model is sturdy and provides lots of detail & playability.

LEGO® CLONE BRANDS - PRICING & AVAILABILITY

The list of clone bricks & brands seems to be endless with each at times exhibiting very distinct differences in colour, quality & functionality and as with most things 'copied' & produced in the east there is the good & the bad.
From the various sets we have managed to source we have isolated the following brands as "the best of the rest":
  • Woma
  • Kazi
  • Enlighten
  • Wange
If you are into mini-figures particularly superheroes  Decool & Sheng Yuan produce what seems like good quality & value for money. Unfortunately we still have not received any of these items and cannot give an accurate opinion.

And this is where the frustration begins with the sourcing & supply of these bricks! Pricing varies drastically from one supplier to the next and there always tends to be a "middle man" which is impacting on the price & supply.
Point in question we picked up the Wange Florist Shop (26144) at a local market for ZAR 25.00. The set consists of 145 pieces which equates to good value (ZAR 0.1724 per piece).

Sourcing this the best price we have managed to find is US$ 9.99, with the exchange rate (10 July 2014) this equates to ZAR 106.79 (0.7365 per piece).

A further frustration is the delay in filling orders, some items have now been pending for in excess of 6 months and very much doubt they will ever arrive.

Ultimately  we still aim to bring these bricks to the country as an affordable alternative to Lego®, it does however seem that it is going to entail a trip to the east and sorting out all the 'local red tape'!

The point we are making is always be aware when buying the clone bricks and check pricing before diving in, you could end up paying Lego® equivalent prices and in some instances end up with one of the poorer quality products.

JUBILUX CREATOR # J5642A BEAUTIFUL VILLA

Wife's first build! She was completely absorbed and just had to get the model completed. Instructions were obscure and confusing on occasion, however nothing that couldn't be figured out. A clutching problem was experienced with the green 2x2 plate on the tree.

LEGO TOWN HALL # 10224

Cooler weather has arrived and provided the perfect excuse to stay in and build the Town Hall which we purchased 4 months ago. All the good things expected from Lego - lots of detail & lots of playability and a nice addition to Luboville.
The only negative was one grey two stud plate that was missing, something you really don't expect to encounter with Lego.
